As I read this sentence, I am reminded both of my mother’s response to questions about her recipes, “a little of this, a little of that” and Roy Wagner’s &lt;em&gt;Invention of Culture&lt;/em&gt;, a book I have just begun to read. That food is central to identity, culture and community is undeniable. It is also a reminder that culture is experimentation as well as following recipes.]]></description>
